Makepeace Therapy.
Counselling in Birmingham & Online.
Hi, I’m Alex - I offer in-person sessions in Birmingham, as well as online counselling for clients across the UK and internationally. My practice is inclusive and affirming, with particular experience supporting LGBT+ clients, recognising the complexities that can come with exploring identity and belonging.
You might be feeling stuck, uncertain, or as though you’ve run out of ways to manage things on your own. Perhaps you're carrying feelings or experiences that seem too much, or you’ve spent a long time hiding parts of yourself – even from those closest to you. You don’t need to have the words for it all yet – starting therapy can be a way of beginning to make sense of what’s been difficult, confusing, or painful.
If you're feeling ready to take a step towards something different and would like to talk through what working together might look like, you're welcome to get in touch for a free 15-minute consultation.
My background.
I am an integrative counsellor registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) holding a Level 4 in Therapeutic Counselling from the Counselling & Psychotherapy Training Academy (CPTA). I am continually developing through CPD to evolve with new research and practices such as undergoing training in neurodiversity and safeguarding. My wider professional background includes working in a multicultural environment offering support with sexual health for an LGBT+ charity.
My Approach.
Collaborative
I’m an integrative counsellor working relationally, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches to respond to your individual needs, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all model. My way of working is grounded in psychodynamic theory and a person-centred foundation, so together we’ll explore not just what’s happening now, but how past relationships and experiences might still be shaping your life today.
Affirming
I work with a wide range of people, and I have particular experience with clients who are LGBT+, including those exploring identity, belonging, or who feel they have to keep parts of themselves hidden. My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and compassionate, and I’ll meet you wherever you are, without assumptions or expectations.
Locations.
Central Birmingham
Carrs Lane Counselling Centre is easily reached by public transport, just a short walk from Moor Street and New Street stations, and offers a quiet, private setting in which to explore whatever’s on your mind.
Walk & Talk Therapy
Combining traditional talk therapy with the benefits of being outdoors. Moving side-by-side in nature helps clients feel more at ease and can significantly reduce anxiety.
Sessions take place in Cannon Hill Park running year-round. If extreme weather hits, we simply shift our session online.
Online
I also work online with clients across the UK and internationally.
Many people find this a convenient and flexible way to access therapy, especially if you’re balancing other commitments or prefer to meet from the comfort of your own space.
Why start therapy?
Racing thoughts, struggling to sleep, your mind jumping to worst-case scenarios, or even the small tasks can feel overwhelming? If this sounds familiar, therapy can offer a space to explore those feelings safely and without judgement.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of how to move forward, counselling can help you make sense of your thoughts, understand the root of your anxiety, and begin to find relief. It's not about having all the answers—it's about feeling supported while you look for them.
Your First Step.
Ready to prioritise your mental health and well-being? I offer a free 15-minute consultation via phone or online, giving you the chance to ask any questions you may have about therapy and explore how we might work together. It’s important that you feel comfortable and confident in choosing the right therapist for you.
If, after our chat, you feel I’m the right fit – we can discuss the next steps on your therapeutic journey.
